Auntie Lizard's Graduation

Riles had such a great time in NY, and did very well on the planes too! She slept a little bit, and while she was awake she really enjoyed playing with the cups and other airplane "toys." Her Nana picked us up at the airport and from that point on they were pretty much inseparable. Riles loved playing with all the new toys Nana got her, and had a great time with UC (Uncle Colin) and Lizard too. She also tried her first food - cantaloupe! The next day was Lizard's graduation, but before that she met her Aunt Paige out for lunch at Olive Garden. At the graduation Riles was very social, going around and meeting all of Nana's and Liz's friends. Her Great Grandma got to show her off as well. All in all, she was extremely well behaved, even with being around a bunch of people she didn't know and staying up way past her bedtime. We were very proud and thankful for that!

The next day she got to spend some time with Grandpa, V, and Great Grandma. They even setup a wooden baby swing for her (that her Mom, UC and Lizard used when they were little!), complete with a little "redneck" baby proofing, using towels to make it a little safer for her. Either way, she loved it and was very happy to sit in it while everyone ate some yummy burgers and dogs. Before she left, Grandpa treated her to a ride through the apple orchard in her Great Grandpa's old Jeep! Finally, that evening she was invited to attend her Aunt Mel and Uncle Spencer's graduation party. She had a lot of fun meeting all the friends of the Phillips family. She was exhausted from a busy few days, so we didn't stay too long, but we were glad we got to join them to celebrate.

After our whirlwind trip, it was back to another week of school for Riles. She had another first food this week - oatmeal! Her teacher says she's a "really good eater!" She gets very excited and tries to grab the spoon to feed herself. She gets a little messy too, which freaks her Dad out :-), and has resulted in a lot of bath time! Our little girl is also officially sitting up on her own(!), and is very happy to entertain herself with a few toys. At the end of the week, Nene and Papa were nice enough to watch Riles and Ski while Mom and Dad went to the Brad Paisley concert. We've got a ton of pictures and videos to share from this past week, so here goes!

P.S. Congratulations to Lizard, Mel & Spencer on your HS graduation! We are so proud of you all and can't wait to witness all of your accomplishments in the years ahead.

NY here we come!

Father's Day was a success! The Kletz & Hobbs clans thoroughly enjoyed their elaborate brunch. Afterward, Riles surprised Dad with some relaxing beach time (well, she actually took a nap!), and then headed out for an exciting round of mini golf. After that was present time, and Dad loved the gift Riley had made for him, along with the framed picture for his desk at work and a valet box (with a picture of Riles & Ski in it of course!). Finally, it was time for some Chipotle and an early bed time, both favorites of Dad's. Riles then had a short week of daycare. Her teachers say she's becoming quite the "diva", crying for attention and then smiling when she gets her way. We think she also might be going through a growth spurt because she has been eating more and gets hungry sooner than she was before. This girl is into EVERYTHING now - if it's within her reach, she will grab it and throw it on the floor before you even realize it was there (and expect you to pick it right back up so she can start the game all over again). Tomorrow she's heading to NY for her Aunt Liz's high school graduation. She can't wait to see everyone and show off all of the new skills she's learned since her last visit!

Happy Father's Day!

We know we have a lot to catch up on, so here's our best attempt to sum up the last few weeks of Riley's life (with pics of course!). She has had a couple more beach days, and has liked it more and more each time. She even took a nap on Papa's shoulder one of those times. Then one night, Riles joined Colton & Levi and stayed with a sitter while the parents all went to a Kenny Chesney concert (Gigi was there too!). Although Mom was a nervous wreck, Riles did great and really just slept most of the time. She has been doing great at daycare - sitting up watching the other kids, rolling around on the floor, playing with toys, etc. She still gets visits from Mom most days, and Mom is even cutting back her hours at work so they can spend more time together in the afternoons.

One weekend, Riles and her cousins met at the beach in an attempt to get a picture they could give to Papa for Father's Day. While the pictures didn't end up really turning out (none of the kids was doing the same thing or looking the same way as the others at the same time), the 3 still had fun playing in the sand. While hard at work posing, Riles accidentally did a face plant in the sand. Her face was covered - and again Mom freaked out - but she rebounded very quickly and was back to her smiling self in no time. This past Friday her daycare was closed for a teacher work day, and Riles got to spend the whole day with Gigi! She got to see the school where Gigi teaches and meet some of the other teachers there as well. She then made a stop at Nene's house to play for a bit, and as a special treat got to join Dad out for lunch. Finally, today she has some special treats in store for Dad for his first Father's Day. We'll have to tell all about that next time!

5 Months Old

Our little Riley has now been around for 5 whole months! She weighs approx. 13 lbs 3 oz and is gaining new skills every day. She loves to make noises and hear the different sounds that come out if her mouth is open or when it's closed. She is sitting up very steadily now without assistance, but still topples over when she gets distracted. She is much more into her toys, loves to put them in her mouth, and needs pretty much constant entertainment or she gets bored. At daycare she holds her bottle all by herself, and actually seems to prefer that over someone holding it for her. At home, she and Ski now have an agreement - Ski gets to lick Riles as much as she wants, and Riley can grab Ski's fur (or eyes or mouth or tail) as much as she wants.

Riley has become a lot more interested in the food we are eating, so I'm thinking we will try a few tastes of some baby food pretty shortly. Although she has never really been a great sleeper, we think we might be starting to see some more consistency as far as that goes. Now that she has completely mastered rolling over both ways, she has been sleeping on her stomach and usually sleeps a lot better that way, getting up once per night to eat but otherwise sleeping from about 7-7. She is so much fun to be around, and as long as she's fed and rested, there's really nothing that bothers her.
