First beach day

After another great week at daycare (they said she has been mastering her rolling skills!), Riles was excited to begin her 3-day weekend with Mom and Dad. When Mom picked her up she was in a particularly good mood and was cracking up at their little game of peek-a-boo (see video!). That night she went to a neighbor's house for a Memorial Day block party, and thoroughly enjoyed watching all of the older kids running and playing. Saturday she joined some friends and family at a party by the beach - it was unfortunately too cold to be at the beach. She was a hit with the partygoers and was passed around to many different people, even falling asleep in her new friend Martha's arms! Then on Sunday she attended a cookout at Aunt Michelle & Uncle Josh's house where she got to hang out with Gigi, Nene, Papa, Michelle, and her cousins too. Monday she capped off her fun-filled weekend with her first trip to the beach! Although we can't say that she enjoyed every minute of it, she did look pretty cute. She just might have to get used to the wind, sand and sun aspects of it. :-) After the beach Riles, Mom and Ski were exhausted and took a nice long nap.

A typical week

This week was pretty typical, as the family has fallen into their weekly routines of work, daycare, dinner, and squeezing in workouts and some playtime with Riles and Ski. This weekend, Riles got a special treat as she joined the One Hour group out at a horse farm. She was being really silly and showing her excitement at getting to walk around and check out all the animals with her cousins. Afterward she hit up Target with Mom while Dad ran some errands, and even got to try sitting up in the shopping cart for the first time. That night she had a dinner date with Mom, Dad and one of Mom's coworkers, who has a 22 month old son. After a long and exciting dinner, the poor tired girl fell fast asleep on Mom's shoulder. She had a pretty lazy Sunday, with a visit from Gigi for pizza before she settled in for the night.

4 Months Old

Time flies...and our little Riley is already 4 months old! At her doctor's visit, we found out she is now 12 lbs 10 oz and 24 inches long, which is pretty much in the 25th percentile all around. A little peanut, as some call her! Her latest achievement was rolling over from her tummy to her back, which she did for the first time about a week ago. Her silly personality is starting to really shine through, with lots of giggles and new sounds she is trying out (one of which sounds like she is pretending to cough).

One of Riley's favorite new hobbies is grabbing things. She loves to grab toys or her feet (or hair or necklaces) and try to put them in her mouth. Her play mat is one of her favorite places to be, at home as well as at daycare. She is still working on sitting up - she has gotten a lot steadier and much prefers it now to laying down. At daycare she loves to sit up and watch all the other babies play, and sometimes skips her naps because of it...oopsy!

Finally, she is starting to get into more of a sleep pattern than before. At daycare she will usually take one longer nap and a few shorter ones, and at night she goes to bed around 7:30 and sleeps 7-8 hours before waking up to eat and go back down until about 7. Her bedtime is pretty set in stone because she gets very cranky if kept up past it, and sometimes doesn't even make it until that time. Occasionally we try to have her nap after daycare and go to bed a little later, but it doesn't really work. She does still wake up sometimes needing her pacifier to fall back asleep, but for the most part we are pretty pleased with the new sleep pattern.

Nana's visit

It's been awhile since the last update, and Riley has been busy as usual! She had a little bit of a rough week after getting a viral infection on top of the thrush she already had. She did get to spend a whole day with Nene when she couldn't go to daycare because of her fever. But she was a trooper and recovered very quickly, becoming her normal smiling self again. And it's a good thing she did, because she had some fun visitors last weekend! Her Nana, and Nana's BFF Brenda both came into town for a weekend visit. She enjoyed having them here very much, and even got to stay with them in their hotel for a few hours while Mom and Dad went to a Kentucky Derby party. We couldn't leave them with her for too long, though, because they can be very bad influences! ;-) The next day she joined them for a walk on the boardwalk and lunch with Nene and Papa. Sunday night she got to stay with Dad while Mom and Nana went to the Rush concert. And before Nana left, she was sure to get Riles a toy - one with four piano keys that lights up and talks/plays music. Her Nana taught her to press the keys with her feet!

Then it was back to daycare for the week, where her teachers talked all about how she is no longer content to lay back. She just wants to sit up and watch all the other babies. It was also teacher appreciation week, so Riley brought in some peanut butter chocolate chip cookies for them to enjoy. Her "school" pictures finally came in, and she also got to make a Mother's Day gift using her hand- and foot-prints! Speaking of Mother's Day, Mom was treated very well by Riles, Ski and Dad - she enjoyed an awesome breakfast and some shopping at the outlet mall, before later joining the rest of the Kletz family for dinner out.
